HERE (download) is a flyer advertising for the First Global Symposium and Workshops on Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal), which will be held at the Joint Meeting WDA and EWDA in Cuenca, Spain on 31 August 2020. This gathering will be the first time that scientists from around the globe convene to exclusively discuss contemporary research on Bsal. In addition, there will be structured discussions to identify the most urgent research needs, and workshops designed to build skills and facilitate research on Bsal and other pathogens. Registration is via the conference website (see below). We hope to offer travel grants to students and early career professionals, but that will depend on securing funds (requests are in progress).

In order to cover a large breadth of research, the symposium will start with four 20-min synthesis presentations that summarize Bsal research among three continents followed by multiple “speed” talks (3-5 min) on various findings. If you are interested in delivering a speed talk on Bsal research, please submit an abstract (following WDA format) to the conference website by 15 March 2020. You will be notified whether your abstract is accepted by the first week of April. If your abstract is not accepted, you can submit it for consideration as an oral or poster presentation in a regular WDA session (deadline 19 April). Additional details about the symposium and workshops are provided here:

Whether you study Bsal or not, we encourage everyone to consider submitting an abstract on any herpetofaunal disease research to a regular WDA session. Travel to Cuenca is easy – flight to Madrid and train to Cuenca. Options for accommodations (including student options) are on the conference website.
If you have any questions about symposium or workshops, please do not hesitate to contact Frank Pasmans ([email protected]), Matt Gray ([email protected]) , or one of the other organizers (see flyer). Questions about WDA and Cuenca can be directed to Dr. Fran Ruiz ([email protected]).
